- Support your fellow women speakers? A very pregnant member of the UK Parliament participated in an ongoing debate, then took a break--and was publicly shamed by the female deputy speaker for making other women look bad. Huh?
- Beyond speaker lists: Women in Cell Biology have created a web referral service for qualified women speakers that's a great model if your organization or company is considering such a move. It offers organizers the chance to send inquiries, plus a list of speakers and its policy on gender balance. Bravo!
- Did you miss? Last week, the Moderating Panels blog examined the most important--and risky--gesture for moderators, and this blog looked at the 'women can't be funny' myth and the power of making an audience laugh. Famous Speech Friday shared Queen Latifah's short and powerful acceptance speech at the SAG awards, a dose of encouragement you'll want to hear every day. And I was quoted in the New York Times's look at sexist descriptions of Hillary Clinton's public speaking--the latest being her "shouting."
